The story of the Republic of Mahabad is one that is often told and retold as an example of Kurdish independence. Many readers will already know what happened, and how it continues to affect the Kurdish drive for independence today. However, it is so important to understand in its objective entirety–especially in the context of Kurdish territorial ambitions today–so I’ve decided to cover the history of the Republic and its ramifications.
(On a side note, I was considering covering the SDF this week, since I’ve barely discussed them and they are rising in prominence by the day.
