That was the crux of a legal letter our reporter, Spencer Woodman, received when he tried to find out how many isolation cells would be included in a new immigration center in Texas. He asked if he could see the blueprints of the facility but instead received a hefty denial hefty denial from lawyers. The GEO Group’s claim was based on a “trade secret” exemption to public records law.


European politicians have decided they need a permanent tax committee to better handle financial crime investigations into money laundering and tax avoidance. The European Parliament has been setting up ad-hoc committees in the wake of our investigations but decided a permanent committee would help politicians build on their work rather than having to start from scratch each time.
